OK, You are here. Lets think about how we approach the target and then improve.

First of all don’t forget all the basic stuff you always do. Assess the weather and do all the safety checks that  you would normally do.

It doesn’t matter how you took off you need to get into wind at an appropriate height in front of the target.

With 50% control you will have a glide angle similar to the red cone in stronger winds and the green cone with lighter winds. Judging the cone is the trick because annoyingly there are no lines in the sky guiding you.

Safety is paramount, we are working close to the ground.

Don’t be tempted to get into deep brakes until you want to flare.

Here are a few pointers once you  are on your final approach:

  • Look at the target
  • Keep your head still
  • Don’t be aggressive with the controls
  • Be patient
  • If the target appears to be moving away, let up or use your speed system
  • If you are too high use ‘s’ turns to reduce your travel across the ground and burn off your height.
  • If you are missing the target accept it, Land safely.
  • Talk to your coach and go again

Obviously, there is much more to it than that. Accuracy is a team sport and we have coaches who will help you improve your results. Competition accuracy, like most skills, is about repetition and muscle memory
