Common Mistakes

Here we will look at some common errors made during accuracy approaches. You may notice that the pilot is always me in the videos. They were not setup, I am just a great example as to how easy it is to get things wrong!

Classic mistake! I am reasonable stable. I land a couple of metres short. But look how much brake I am using. I am not flying my feet to the target. We call it eyes to target. What I should have done was to allow the glider to fly at the beginning of the clip to get closer and then I could have dropped onto the pad.

Better this time, definitely not eyes to target. I gave the glider some speed at the beginning and applied a bit of brake which gave me some altitude. The my arms went berserk I didn’t confidently apply the brake progressively onto the pad. I should have been at full brake earlier and I would have dropped on the pad. All those fast twitchy moves do nothing but waste time.

You may think because I hit the pad all was well. Look at my arms they are moving way too much somewhere there will be a middle ground where I can slide smoothly forward onto the pad without all the surges.

I also use the risers to slip forward in the harness which indicates there is a better harness setting.

Not too bad that time. I have no idea why my left arm shot out towards the end maybe a balance issue in the harness.

A nice positive application of brake at the end.

Not too bad again. Maybe a little issue with confidence on the brakes. again they are a bit twitchy. Good strong legs and running off the landing, we don’t want to fall over.
